The Copyright Act (PL 94-553), effective January 1, 1978, provides protection for all writings from the date of creation whether or not they are formally copyrighted.
It is the policy of the American Textile History Museum (ATHM) to comply with all state and federal laws, including copyright laws.† Although a work may be freely accessible on the Internet and contain no statement about copyright, copyright law provides that such works are protected by copyright.† Users must assume that works are protected by copyright unless they positively ascertain otherwise. The user assumes all risks of copyright infringement.
It is very important that researchers obtain permission for the publication of material, as the penalties for violation of the statute are severe. Before any material from ATHMís collections may be published, the permission of the Museum or other owners of specific materials must be obtained in writing. It is the responsibility of the researcher to obtain such permission. If you have any questions about ATHMís publication policies, contact the Clare Sheridan at 978-441-0400 x228 or email@example.com.
